Create A Dream Board

So many people say to me “I don’t know how to move forward” after the death of someone profoundly important in their life, and so I  offer a suggestion and a tool to aid in visualizing what your life might look like after you begin the healing process of grieving a loss.

The Dream Board

The idea of a dream board is an aid to help you visualize what you want your life to look like.  I know some of you are thinking I can’t visualize a life without _________(you fill in the blank), but I assure you at some point through your grief journey you will have to think about answering the what’s next in your life question.

The dream board is a tool to keep us focused on a vision of our life and the details of what we want for ourselves. It actually helps us to get out of being stuck and to think and envision our future desires.  Looking at the vision board everyday for 30 days will change your life if you can “feel” those visions.  What I mean by feeling the vision is to place yourself in the picture, what does it smell like?  sound like?  what do you feel – happy? peaceful? abundant? joyful?

I hope you will give it a try!

  • Ann,
thanks for your comments, glad to hear you have created a dream board. I do respect your point of view and I think perhaps our perspective is different when we lose someone like a spouse and then we think that our life is God’s will and out of our hands..

I have to say, I do think our future IS in our control, and by envisioning what we want it to look like is a valuable step in getting there.

I send you positive energy in creating everything on your dream board!

  • I’ve actually done this! I have used words and pictures that depict the life I want to enjoy. Some are specific goals, but most are more statements of fact. Grace, Organized, Body Acceptance at Last and PhD Dissertation are among the words posted. I have a picture of children and gardens, a baby grand piano, beautiful and exotic sunsets . . . beautiful home interior and exterior views, healthy fruits and vegetables . . . I have learned not to invest too much energy into a certain view of the future, it is not in our control. But we can control certain things around us and we can create the kind of life we want – even if we have to do it without our loved one by our side.
